Pack forced to settle for series split with No. 10 Angelo State

SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 24, 2018) In their last non-conference game of the regular season, Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball was blanked by No. 10 Angelo State University 10-0 Sunday at Foster Field.

The Pack wrapped up their nonconference slate with an 8-5 record. The Rams improved to 9-5.

Angelo State limited the Pack to just two hits, none for extra bases. Mason Krueger (Jr., Draper, Utah) and Robbie Espinosa (Jr., Yorba Linda, Calif.) had the Pack's only two hits, both singles.

Gilbert Sauceda (Jr., Indio, Calif.) drew three walks. CSU-Pueblo walked six times total.

The Rams scored three runs in the first to put the Pack in an early hole. They added isolated runs in the third and fifth before scoring four runs in the sixth to put the game away. Another run in the ninth, gave the Rams a 10-0 win.

Carson Childers and Trent Baker combined for the shutout. Childers earned the win with six shutout innings. Ryan Laydon (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) took the loss for the Pack, dropping to 2-2 on the season. Laydon tossed 2.2 innings in his first start of the season.

The Pack will start Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Friday March 2 when they visit Metro State University Denver for a four-game series.  First pitch between the Pack and Roadrunners is set for 3 p.m.
