PUEBLO, Colo. (February 20, 2018) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its first weekly regional players of the week Wednesday and Chris Devery of the Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball team garnered South Central Region Hitter of the Week honors.
Devery (Sr., Saugus, Calif.) sparked the Pack's offense to a four-game sweep of Northwest Nazarene. The senior went 11-for-17 (.647) with 10 RBIs. He scored five runs. The Pack's offense averaged 10.5 runs per game.
Saturday, Devery swatted his first home run of the young season. He added three doubles to slug 1.000. The senior also fielded a perfect third base.
In the series opener, Devery went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs. With the score tied at 9, he scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth after a leadoff double.
He had a two RBI single to lead the Pack back from a 7-0 deficit to a 10-7 win. The Pack's third baseman scored two runs with a hit and a walk in game three.
In the series finale, Devery was a perfect 5-for-5 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Thanks to his 10 RBI week, Devery ranks second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with 12 RBIs.
This is the second NCBWA Hitter of the Week Award of Devery's career. He received this accolade May 10, 2017 after a 16 RBI week.
Devery also received RMAC Player of the Week honors Tuesday. The Pack's third baseman was selected Preseason All-Conference by the RMAC coaches.
The Pack and Devery will hope to continue their momentum when they play their first road game of the season Friday Feb. 23 when they face Angelo State University. The four-game series between the ThunderWolves and the Rams starts at 3 p.m.
