PUEBLO, Colo. (February 14, 2018) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball continues its season-opening nine-game homestand Thursday when they play Northwest Nazarene University in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The Pack will face the Nighthawks a 1p.m. game Friday. The two teams wrap up the series Saturday in a 12 p.m. showdown.
Over their first two series of 2018, the Pack has posted a 2-3 record. The Nighthawks have started the season 2-4.
Billy Reyes (Jr., Yucaipa, Calif.) and Ambrose Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) enter the weekend tied for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference lead with eight RBIs. Both Reyes and Romero also lead the RMAC with five walks.
Reyes also shares the conference lead with two home runs. His .526 on-base percentage ranks ninth in the RMAC. Reyes has a .917 slugging percentage, fourth best in the conference.
Romero anchored the Pack's offense in their series with Pittsburg State University. The Pack's Catcher went 5-for-9 with four walks and six RBIs. He has a .524 OBP on the season, 10th-best in the RMAC.
Senior Zach Hoffman (South Jordan, Utah) has produced for the Pack both at the plate and on the mound. Hoffman leads the Pack with a .500 average. He had a walk off hit that led the Pack to a win over the Gorillas Thursday.
Hoffman leads the Pack with a 2.53 ERA The lefty has struck out 10 batters and surrendered just eight hits in 10.2 innings pitched. He will look for his first win of the season against the Nighthawks. Hoffman leads the RMAC in innings pitched and strikeouts.
Mason Krueger (Jr., Draper, Utah) leads the RMAC with nine runs scored. His seven hits lead the Pack. Krueger is hitting .389 on the year.
The Pack last played Northwest Nazarene in 2003. CSU-Pueblo swept the four-game set at Rawlings Field. The ThunderWolves outscored the Nighthawks 58-21 in that series.
These four games will conclude the Pack's season opening homestand. Thursday's doubleheader will feature two seven inning games. Both Friday and Saturday's games will be nine innings.
