CCA Tabs Lazcano Second Team All-Region

PUEBLO, Colo. (May 18, 2017) For the second time in as many days, Kyle Lazcano of the Colorado State University – Pueblo Baseball team earned Second Team All-South Central Region honors this time from the D-II Conference's Commissioners  Association.

Thursday's recognition comes one day after Lazcano (Sr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) earned Second Team All-Region accolades from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Lazcano led the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with 97 strikeouts in 2017. This total was the most punchouts recorded by a Pack pitcher since Judd Songster fanned 100 in 2001.

The 97 strikeouts more than doubled his 42 ring ups as a junior. He ranked 22nd in D-II with his 97 K's.

The righty finished the season with a 6-1 record and a 3.18 ERA. Lazcano's ERA ranked second among RMAC starters. He also shaved more than three points off his ERA and gave up less earned runs as a senior than he did in almost half as many innings as junior.

CSU-Pueblo's Friday starter took the ball for an RMAC-best 93.1 innings. He completed three games.

On April 7, Lazcano tossed his first complete game shutout against Adams State University. Over the course of nine innings, Lazcano only allowed four hits and no walks. He struck out a career-high 13 in that game.

Lazcano held opponents to a .237 average for the season. The Pack's ace posted a 1.21 WHIP through his 14 starts.

During the 2017 season, Lazcano received three RMAC Pitcher of the Week honors, tying him for the conference lead. He was also named NCBWA Regional Pitcher of the Week April 12.

Lazcano also claimed First Team All-RMAC honors. He was one of only six RMAC players and one of just two RMAC pitchers to receive an All-Region recognition.
