COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 2, 2017) – Kyle Lazcano of the Colorado State University – Pueblo Baseball team earned his third Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week Award of 2017 Tuesday.
With his third RMAC Pitcher of the Week Award, Lazcano is tied for the most in the conference this season. As a team, the Pack has received five RMAC Player of the Week awards in 2017.
Lazcano (Sr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) dominated once again as he led the Pack to a 6-2 win over University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday in what would eventually be a Steel & Silver trophy clinching performance.
Pitching in Pueblo for the last time in his career, Lazcano threw a complete game and struck out eight Mountain Lions. This was the third complete game Lazcano threw this season. He allowed just six hits and walked just one as he improved to 6-1. Lazcano made just two mistakes as Jamie Crabtree and the Pueblo winds led to two home runs off him, the only runs he allowed in the game.
The righty ranks second in the RMAC with a 2.45 ERA. His 89 strikeouts lead the conference. Lazcano ranks 21st in D-II in strikeouts.
Lazcano will likely take the mound Friday at Adams State University as the Pack begins its final series of the regular season. The last time Lazcano faced the Grizzlies he threw a complete game shutout, striking out 14 batters.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
