ThunderWolves return home to battle Regis

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 20, 2017) Colorado State University – Pueblo Baseball will return to Rawlings Field for their final eight-game homestand of 2017 when they face Regis University Friday at 6 p.m. The Pack and Rangers will continue their four-game series Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The two teams will conclude their series Sunday at 1 p.m.

CSU-Pueblo enters the weekend fighting for the final spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. With 12 games remaining, the Pack currently holds the sixth and last playoff position in the RMAC Tournament chase thanks to an 11-13 record in conference games. Just two games separate fourth and seventh place in the RMAC standings.

The ThunderWolves own a 17-21 record overall. Regis brings a 24-15 record into Rawlings Field. The Rangers rank second in the RMAC standings with a 17-11 conference mark.

Kyle Lazcano (Sr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) continues to lead the RMAC in strikeouts. With76 punchouts this season Lazcano ranks 22nd in D-II. He has posted a 2.60 ERA in a RMAC-high 69.1 innings pitched. Lazcano remains undefeated at 5-0 this season.

Lazcano earned a win against the Rangers Feb.17. The righty threw 7.1 innings allowing just one earned run. He struck out seven Rangers in a 4-3 Pack victory. Lazcano is 3-0 with a 2.81 ERA in his career against Regis.

Chris Devery (Jr., Saugus, Colo.) gave the Pack's offense a jolt with a strong series against Colorado Christian University. Devery went 7-for-15 (.467) against the Cougars with three walks to post a .556 on base percentage. The third baseman also slugged his first home run of the season. Devery now has a .354 batting average and a .456 OBP.

Ambrose Romero (Sr., Albuquerque, N.M.) ranks fourth in the RMAC with 35 RBIs this season. Romero has the sixth-best on base percentage in the conference at .471. The Pack's Catcher has reached base in 24 consecutive games.

Brandon Castaneda (Sr., Azusa, Calif.) leads the Pack with a .378 batting average. Castaneda remains one of the toughest batters to strikeout in the nation. He is the 14th toughest batter to strikeout in D-II with just seven strikeouts in 148 at bats.

Center fielder Zach Hoffman (Jr., South Jordan, Utah) ranks second in the RMAC with 15 stolen bases. The Pack's leadoff hitter swiped four bags against the Cougars. Hoffman stands 10th in the RMAC with a .373 batting average.

The Pack and Regis played each other twice during a February pod. Each team won one of these two games.

This series against the Rangers will be the penultimate home series for the Pack. CSU-Pueblo will host University of Colorado Colorado Springs their final home series starting April 28 with Pack the Park at 7:05 p.m. at Runyon Field.
