DALLAS (April 12, 2017) – Colorado State University-Pueblo senior Kyle Lazcano (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) was recognized as the of National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Central Region Pitcher of the Week, Wednesday.
Lazcano , the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, was untouchable in a 3-0 win over Adams State University Friday. The righty threw the first complete game shutout of his career as he led the Pack to a RMAC victory that would help the Pack jump to fourth place in the conference standings.
Lazcano struck out a career-high 13 batters in nine innings. Incredibly, Lazcano did not issue a single walk. He limited to the Grizzlies to just four hits and no Grizzly advanced past second base. Lazcano scattered four hits. He needed just 113 pitches and faced three batters over the minimum as he remained unbeaten at 5-0.
The Pack's Friday starter leads the RMAC with 71 strikeouts, 11 more than his closest competition. He ranks second with a 2.14 ERA and five wins. Opponents are hitting just .207 against him. Lazcano ranks 22nd in D-II in strikeouts. His five wins ranks second in the conference.
Lazcano was also the RMAC Pitcher of the Week March 8 following a then career-high 12 strikeout performance against Metro State University of Denver.
Lazcano will likely toe the rubber Thursday when the Pack will hit the road for a four-game set with Colorado Christian University. First pitch in Lakewood is scheduled for 2 p.m.
