COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 11, 2017) – Kyle Lazcano of the Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball team earned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday.
Lazcano (Sr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) was untouchable in a 3-0 win over Adams State University Friday. The righty threw the first complete game shutout of his career as he led the Pack to a RMAC victory that wopuld help the Pack jump to fourth place in the conference standings.
Lazcano struck out a career-high 13 batters in nine innings. Incredibly, Lazcano did not issue a single walk. He limited to the Grizzlies to just four hits and no Grizzly advanced past second base. Lazcano scattered four hits. He needed just 113 pitches and faced three batters over the minimum as he remained unbeaten at 5-0.
The Pack's Friday starter leads the RMAC with 71 strikeouts, 11 more than his closest competition. He ranks second with a 2.14 ERA and five wins. Opponents are hitting just .207 against him. Lazcano ranks 22nd in D-II in strikeouts. His five wins ranks second in the confernece.
Tuesday marked the second time this season that Lazcano has earned RMAC Pitcher of the Week. He claimed this honor March 8 following a then career-high 12 strikeout performance against Metro State University of Denver.
As a team, CSU-Pueblo has taken four RMAC Player of the Week Awards this season. Lazcano became just the second student-athlete to earn a second RMAC Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
Lazcano will likely toe the rubber Thursday when the Pack will hit the road for a four-game set with Colorado Christian University. First pitch in Lakewood is scheduled for 2 p.m.
