Castaneda continues his hot streak in Pack loss to Lubbock Christian

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 26, 2017) –  In their last non-conference game of the season, Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball fell to Lubbock Christian University 11-1 by run rule Sunday.

For the second consecutive season, the Pack and the Chapparals split their four-game series with the ThunderWolves winning the first two games and Lubbock Christian winning the last two. CSU-Pueblo stands 6-8 on the season, while Lubbock Christian improved to 10-6.

Senior Brandon Castaneda (Azusa, Calif.) smashed two double for the Pack. Castaneda went 2-for-3 on the day and scored the Pack's only run. He finished the series 9-for-14 (.643) with five runs scored and three RBIs.

First baseman Gilbert Sauceda (So., Indio, Calif.) also had two hits in three trips Sunday.

After Lubbock Christian took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Pack answered in the second. Castaneda led off the inning with a double. He would eventually score on a Jorge Duarte (Jr., San Luis, Ariz.) groundout. 

The game remained tied at one until the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Lubbock Christian erupted for five runs. They would add five more runs in the seventh to end the game with an 11-1 run-rule win. 

Zach Hoffman (Jr., South Jordan, Utah) took the loss in his first Pack start, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings. Hoffman held the Chaps to four hits and three walks but has an 0-1 record for his efforts. Daniel Crooks earned the win for Lubbock Christian. 

The ThunderWolves will return home to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play Friday when they meet Metro State University of Denver. First pitch between the Pack and the Roadrunners is scheduled for 2 p.m.
