PUEBLO, Colo. (February 23, 2017) – Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball will hit the road for the first time in 2017 when they face Lubbock Christian University in a four-game series.
The series starts Friday at 4 p.m. Mountain Standard time and continues with a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. CSU-Pueblo and Lubbock Christian will conclude their four-game set Sunday at 12 p.m.
With a 4-6 record overall, the Pack will hope to get back to .500 with a series win over the Chapparals. CSU-Pueblo split a pod last weekend with Regis University and Adams State University, defeating the Rangers Friday and the Grizzlies Saturday. They dropped a game to both teams Sunday.
Kyle Lazcano (Sr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) has been the anchor of the Pack's rotation. Lazcano leads the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with two wins and 19.1 innings pitched. His 1.40 ERA ranks fourth He also ranks second in the conference with 19 strikeouts. Lazcano will likely pitch Friday.
Derek Rohleder (Jr., Littleton, Colo.) stands tied for fifth in the RMAC with a 1.93 ERA. Rohleder has fanned 12 batters in 14 innings of work.
Despite being tied for the RMAC-lead in saves, Colton Follett (Jr., Simi Valley, Calif.) is expected to make his first start this weekend. Follett has two saves this season. He has struck out seven batters in 7.1 innings of work.
Catcher Ambrose Romero (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.) ranks fifth in the RMAC with a .469 batting average. Romero ranks second in the RMAC with nine RBIs.
Juniors Jake Boyd (Salt Lake City, Utah), and Zach Hoffman (South Jordan, Utah) stand tied for second in the RMAC with eight runs scored. Hoffman also ranks second in the RMAC with five stolen bases. Boyd ranks third with four steals.
Chris Devery (Jr., Saugus, Calif.) ranks fourth in the RMAC with a .588 on base percentage. Devery has drawn five walks and also has a double and a triple.
Ranked No. 6 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll last week, Lubbock Christian will pose a test for the Pack. After being swept by No.4 Angelo State the Chaps dropped from the rankings. They promptly responded with a 3-2 win over No. 24 West Texas A&M University Tuesday. Lubbock Christian owns an 8-4 overall.
This series against the Chaps will conclude the non-conference season for the Pack. CSU-Pueblo will open up conference play with an eight-game homestand. The Pack starts its RMAC slate with a game against Metro State University of Denver Friday March 3 at Rawlings Field.
