Fairchild and Laydon named Pack Athletes of the Week presented by Mobile Record Shredders

PUEBLO, Colo. (May 10, 2018) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Lauren Fairchild (So., McKinney, Tex.) and Ryan Laydon (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.

Sophomore Fairchild posted her season best leap in the long jump with a mark of 5.78m, which was just .01 meters off a provisional mark.

On the men's side, Laydon celebrated his senior weekend with two saves. Laydon led the Pack to a 3-1 series win over Adams State University that gave them the No. 4 seed in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Pueblo native made two relief appearances for the ThunderWolves. In 5.2 innings pitched, Laydon surrendered just one run. He allowed only three hits and two walks. The lefty fanned three batters.

In the 14th annual Pack the Park game, the Pack held a one-run lead in sixth inning of a seven inning game. With the go-ahead run coming to the plate, the Pack turned to Laydon who came in and got two outs. Laydon would also throw a scoreless ninth to clinch a 4-3 win.

One day later, the Pack gave Laydon the ball in the sixth inning of a nine inning game when they held a 3-1 lead. With two on and no outs, Laydon worked out of the jam. He would keep the Grizzlies quiet the rest of the game, throwing four innings to pick up his second save of the weekend.

Laydon is now 3-2 this season with a 4.40 ERA. He leads the Pack with 18 appearances in 2018. Laydon's two saves ties him for seventh-most in the RMAC.

Up next for the track & field team is the NCAA Outdoor Championships May 24-26 Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, NC.

The Pack baseball team will play Colorado School of Mines Thursday in the second round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament. First pitch from Suplizio Field in Grand Junction is scheduled for 7 p.m.
