Moreno and Durate named Pack Athletes of the Week presented by Mobile Record Shredders

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 21, 2018) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Gabby Moreno (So., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Jorge Durate (Sr., San Luis, Ariz.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.

Moreno led CSU-Pueblo softball in two home series played at the newly remodeled Rawling Softball Field. Last Wednesday the ThunderWolves welcomed No. 15 West Texas for the home debut and dropped two nonconference games to the Lady Buffs.

The Pack resumed Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play and split a four-game series against Chadron State College.

Moreno continues to flourish in the leadoff spot as she collected nine hits on the week and totaled two RBIs, four runs and 14 total bases. She went a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases and now has 13 on the season.

She currently is on a 18-game hit streak and leads the Pack in batting average (.429), hits (39), and runs (19).

On the men's side, Durate was clutch for the Pack this weekend, leading CSU-Pueblo Baseball to a four-game sweep of New Mexico Highlands University. The left fielder had two walk off hits to hand the Pack a pair of victories over the Cowboys.

Despite only hitting .267 for the series, Duarte came through when it mattered most. In game two of the series, the game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth. With two on and two out, Duarte came through with a double and score the winning run of a 4-3 extra inning win.

One day later, Duarte did it again. The game was tied 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth. Duarte smacked a one-out single that plated a run and give the Pack a 5-4 win.

Duarte has now hit safely in 11 consecutive games. He is batting .353 on the season with four doubles and eight RBIs. The Pack has now won their last eight home games.

The softball team goes on the road and plays a four-game series at Regis starting Saturday at noon in Denver. The Pack baseball team will play Colorado Mesa University this weekend in a four-game series at Rawlings Field starting Friday at 6 p.m.
