Urenda and Perkins named Pack Athletes of the Week presented by Mobile Record Shredders

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 28, 2018) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Angelique Urenda (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) and JaVaughn Perkins (So., Omaha, Neb.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.

Urenda was crowned Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champion in the pole vault to guide the men's and women's programs on day one of the RMAC Championships Friday in Golden, Colorado,

Urenda broke the RMAC record with a vault of 3.89m to establish a strong NCAA provisional mark that should grant her a spot at the NCAA Championships in two weeks. The previous conference highwater mark was 3.83m, set by Lauren Graham of University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 2011. Her previous personal best, which was also a school record was 3.70m.

She scored 10 team points to help guide the Pack to 16 points on day one of the championships. The women's team finished seventh at the RMAC Championships.

On the men's side, Perkins was crowned as the region champion at 184 with a takedown in sudden victory to defeat third-ranked Nicholas Fiegener 3-1. Perkins defeated Fiegener in the same fashion in the title match at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships, while Fiegener defeated Perkins in the championship bout at the last year's regional.

The No. 5 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team will send three student-athletes to the NCAA National Championships after qualifying at the 2018 NCAA Division II Super Region Four Championships in Las Vegas, New Mexico Saturday. The ThunderWolves finished fourth as a team.

The indoor championships close the indoor season for most the Pack athletes, while the team will learn who qualified for the national championships Tuesday, Feb. 27. The 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships is set for March 9-10 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.

The three Pack wrestling qualifiers have two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Division II National Championships, set for March 9-10 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
