Knafelc and Newman named Pack Athletes of the Week presented by Mobile Record Shredders

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 24, 2018) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Jennah Knafelc (Jr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and Will Newman (Sr., Hawthorne, Calif.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.

Knafelc came off the bench with a flurry to lead the Pack to a 2-0 week with victories over Colorado Christian and Colorado Mines. In just 15.5 minutes per game, Knafelc scored 11.5 points per game. The junior made 80.0 percent from the field (8-for-10) and 83.3 percent (5-of-6)from downtown. She also led the pack with 2.5 steals per game this week.

In the Pack' 69-44 win over the Cougars, Knafelc played just 12 minutes, but she scored 10 points on a perfect 4-for-4 night from the field.

Knafelc dropped 13 points Saturday, going 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-4 from deep. She had three assists and four steals to lead the Pack to a 63-50 win over the Orediggers.

Knafelc ranks third in the RMAC with a 46.3% 3-point percentage. She stands fifth with 1.8 steals per game in RMAC play.

On the men's side, Newman recorded 18.5 points, 7.5 assists 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game in a 2-0 RMAC week for the ThunderWolves.

The senior committed just one turnover in 80 minutes of play.

In a comeback road win at Colorado Mines, the senior pulled down 19 points, eight rebounds, six assists, six steals and two blocks with four 3-pointers. The six steals was a career high and is tied for the most by a member of the RMAC this season.

In a home victory against CCU, Newman recorded 18 points, nine assists, six rebounds and four steals. 

Both basketball teams return home this week to continue Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Friday the Pack welcome Chadron State and host Regis Saturday. The women tipoff at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game to follow inside Massari Arena.
