PUEBLO, Colo. (March 15, 2017) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Andrea Tuck (Sr., Canon City, Colo.) and the men's distance medley relay team have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
Tuck became the first indoor All-American for the women's program.
Tuck finished seventh in the pentathlon to be crowned an NCAA All-American. The Pack have had 12 All-Americans in program history, but just one athlete has finished in the top eight in the NCAA era, as Danita Wyatt was fifth at the 2011 Outdoor nationals in the triple jump.
Tuck started the day with a season-best time of 8.94 in the 60m hurdles to finish eighth and score 922 points. She followed that with 689 points in the high jump (5-1 ¼). The senior finished third in the shot put to score 669 points on a throw of 12.12m. She was sixth through three events with 2280 points.
She dropped to eighth overall after finishing 11th in the long jump (5.26m scored 631 points). One of Tuck's strongest events is the 800m run, which caps the five-event multi. She ran the event for an indoor PR in 2:18.85 to finish second and secure All-American honors.
Tuck finished with 3,750 points for a season-best and was just 10 points shy of her personal record.
She scored two team points for the Pack, which has also never been done at an NCAA Indoor Championship.
On the men's side. the men's distance medley relay team posted a third place finish for All-American honors.
The same group was runner-up in 2015 and recorded a third place finish in 2017. The Pack ran a 9:42.61 race to finish a little over two seconds behind a photo finish between Western Oregon and Adams State. Both those teams ran a 9:40.15 and after a long review, Western Oregon was crowned champions.
The Pack were fourth after the 1200m leg, ran by Carter and remained fourth after Vassell's time in the 400. Walker posted a 1:49.90 in the 800m portion of the race, which would be a PR in an open 800m race.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference 800m champion's time lifted the Pack into first place with just the anchor leg of 1600m. Williams ran a respectable 4:04.68 mile, but the final runners for the Wolves of WOU and ASU were a few seconds faster to pass Williams with about 100m left in the race.
