PUEBLO, Colo. (November 30, 2016) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Katie Cunningham (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) and Mark Williams (Jr., Chino Hills, Calif.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
Cunningham claimed Thanksgiving Classic MVP honors in two wins for the CSU-Pueblo women's basketball team. She averaged 11.5 points per game, making 7-of-10 from the field. Cunningham went 6-for-6 from the free throw line and sank 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
The junior averaged 7.5 rebounds per game. She dished out 5.0 assists per game and grabbed 1.5 steals per game.
She scored 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field against Wayland Baptist. She was perfect on her only 3-point attempt and made both of her free throws. Cunningham filled the stats sheet with seven assists, seven rebounds, and three steals against the Flying Queens.
Cunningham leads the RMAC with 9.2 rebounds per game. She also ranks third in the conference with 4.8 assists per game. Cunningham is also fifth in free throw shooting, making 92.9 percent of her shots from the line and fourth in steals (2.2) per game.
The ThunderWolves (6-0) enter the week in the No. 12 slot of the latest WBCA Poll.
On the men's side, Williams guided the Pack men's basketball squad in scoring a 79-78 upset win over No. 7 Tarleton State Friday.
Williams averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games at the Tarleton State Thanksgiving Tournament.
He led the ThunderWolves shooting 68.4% from the field and went 14-of-18 (77.8%) at the charity stripe.
The 6-foot-4 forward scored a team-high 25 points and eight rebounds in the win Friday against the tournament host-Texans.
It is the second win versus a ranked Tarleton State squad. In 2015 the ThunderWolves beat the than top-ranked Texans 87-84 on a buzzer beater in overtime in the same Tarleton State Thanksgiving Tournament.
Williams followed Friday's performance with 16 points in a 94-91 defeat Saturday versus Texas A&M-Commerce.
This season Williams leads the Pack (2-3) in scoring at 16.6 points per game and holds a 60.9 field goal percentage, third highest on the team.
Both teams open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this week with games Friday at Fort Lewis and Saturday at Adams State. The women tipoff at 5:30 p.m. both nights and the men's game to follow.
